McGregor Institute Instructors

We believe that our faculty makes the difference! Our faculty is comprised of professional educators with years of experience educating new EMTs. Most of our faculty also serve as practicing EMS providers. They are an integral part of the Institute.

Ian has been working with the McGregor Institute for years in both the EMT, AEMT, and CPR programs. He is a PhD student in Experiential Education at UNH. His educational background includes teaching middle school science in inner city Oakland, CA. His education includes a Master's degree from University of New Hampshire focusing on experiential education for post-secondary students, as well as a B.S with Honors. Beyond years of ambulance experience, Ian has also traveled around the world working as a Wilderness EMT in locations ranging from the Scandinavian Arctic Circle to the Andes Mountains in Argentina.

Katherine Lockwood is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Dept of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences at UNH, teaching Anatomy and Physiology and Clinical Nutrition. She has been in EMS since 1989 and an EMS instructor since 2006, teaching at McGregor and throughout the state. Her interests include diabetic emergencies and the role of diet in the health and well being in EMTs.

Tom Welsh is an avid outdoorsman, Nationally Registered AEMT, and professional educator from Australia. He previously worked as a Paramedic in Sydney where he mentored ambulance officers in training. This began his love for education, and after traveling with his family to the United States he found work as a wilderness first aid and WEMT instructor.

Harry Mueller is a paramedic with over thirty-five years of experience. He has worked in a variety EMS systems currently serving as the Operations Manager at McGregor EMS. In his spare time Harry serves on multiple boards including the Bariatric Task Force for the New Hampshire Bureau of EMS.

John Cunningham

John Cunningham is a retired Captain/Paramedic (NREMTP) who brings over 35 years of full time Professional Fire and EMS background and experience to McGregor Institute. Retired from The City of Dover Fire & Rescue,  his various roles during his career included:  Being one of Dover’s first full-time Paramedics, EMS Training and Education Lt.

Public Education, Fire Prevention and Life Safety Inspection Lt.   Also long time special operations Tactical SWAT Medic/Team Leader for SCRTOU- Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit.  John was also a Certified Flight Paramedic (fixed wing), Emergency Department Paramedic (FMH),  as well as various private EMS agencies including for the City of Manchester 9-1-1.  John has been  and continues to be a long time passionate EMS and Fire Educator and holds degrees in both Paramedicine and Fire Science.

Hannah began her educational career as an Outdoor Education Instructor and guide. She led students of all ages on back country expeditions as well as worked at front country facilities leading school and corporate team building camps. After teaching a number of diverse student groups she entered the medical field as a WFR and eventually gained her Diploma of Paramedical Science in Sydney, Australia. She has 15 years of wilderness medical experience and 10 years of EMS working in both Australia and in the United States.

Karen has over twenty-four years of experience in EMS and over twenty years of experience as a Paramedic. Karen has worked as an EMS instructor for UNH since 1996. She also is a Captain/Paramedic at McGregor Memorial EMS in Durham, NH.

Deborah Mueller

Dr. Mueller began her career in medicine as an EMT. She is currently an Obstetrician/Gynecologist at Caring Partners OB/GYN in Rochester, NH as well as a Fellow of the American College of OB/GYN.

Chris serves as Executive Director of McGregor EMS and the McGregor Institute. He has fifteen years of experience in EMS and has instructed on a variety of topics including Emergency Preparedness and Public Health Emergencies. He has served as a National Registry of EMT exam question reviewer.
